Hallmarks loves Christmas. It shows its popular holiday romances at every opportunity, and why not? Let's celebrate year-round!
About the Title: It sounds like a human being is being given away as a present, so I don’t love the title
Theme: Let me drop everything to become a princess
Stars
Katie McGrath: As Jules, who has become the guardian of her niece and nephew, McGrath plays the role just right. She’s both very human and very charming.
Sam Heughan: As Prince Ashton, Heughan is stuffy but reliable. He comes to life around Jules and then has a breakup with his girlfriend that is more realistic than in most Hallmark offerings.
Overall: The movie is interesting because Roger Moore is in it, but it’s not one of his more memorable outings. His grumpy King Edward is a little too much. McGrath and Heughan keep the movie going forward as we cheer for their romance.
Must-see factor: 4 out of 5
Ending: Regally happy
About the Title: Excellent choice
Theme: You might be a jerk but … I kinda like you
Stars
Fiona Gubelmann: Her character April’s unabashed love of Christmas and positivity will wear down even the most cynical viewer. Gubelmann plays this character to peak huggability. What’s not to love?
Jesse Metcalfe: As Eric the borderline jerk, Metcalfe struggles a bit but shines in the last half of the movie. Eric figures it out and becomes the guy we want for April. (But I still have some skepticism over this "new leaf" business, so let's check back later to see how their relationship is going.)
Overall: Adorable plus charming equals irresistible! Beautiful plus handsome equals too much! I mean, really, these two should probably get married in real life. The script has a few awkward places (What neighborhood shames someone for not decorating for Christmas? And who cares if they do?), but Metcalfe and Gubelmann soar high enough to make them disappear.
Must-see factor: 4 out of 5
Ending: Gorgeously happy
Go ahead and get past the unlikely event of amnesia among strangers, and you'll enjoy the charm and chemistry of this romance.
About the Title: They had to get “Remember” in there
Theme: I’ve lost my memory but I’m ready for romance
Stars
Ali Liebert: As book-loving Darcy, Liebert is a natural charmer. Her character is genuine and good, but she makes being a nice person seem cool.
Peter Porte: Porte is stuck playing an amnesiac, but he takes on the overdone plotline with ease. He’s a sincere good-guy match for Darcy.
Overall: Even with the strained storyline of sudden memory loss, it’s easy to hang on every interaction of these two. They are the very definition of likable. And the movie is suspenseful even though we have a pretty good idea of what will happen.
Must-see factor: 4 out of 5
Ending: Memorably happy
